Trinity's Harrison & Harrison Organ
The college's organ was built in 1964 by the well-known organ builders Harrison & Harrison. The organ has since remained relatively unchanged (in 1974 Harrison & Harrison returned to the instrument to increase the size of the Great division and to make other small changes). The organ case and loft are situated on the west side of the Chapel. The instrument itself is very comfortable to play and is certainly one of the more practical college organs in Oxford, equipped with both electric action and combination pistons.
It has proved very well suited to the accompaniment of the choir with its diverse and colourful swell and soft diapasons. From a solo point of view, it can play 17th and 18th century music particularly well, but is also capable of playing French and English music of the 19th and early 20th centuries reasonably convincingly. |
